Of all healthcare residents tested, we learned that one resident in assisted living, who was asymptomatic, has tested positive. We’ve received encouraging news that all of our residents in Brandel have tested negative.

Under reporting requirements from CMS, our cumulative totals as of today, June 10, are as follows: Nine employees have tested positive for COVID-19 as previously shared and one resident in assisted living.

These cases have been reported to local and state health authorities and we remain in close contact with them regarding guidance on infection control protocols, in addition to the stringent measures we already have in place which follow CDC and CMS guidelines.

We are monitoring all residents and employees who may exhibit any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and, if necessary, ask that they reach out to their personal physicians for medical advice. Our infection control protocols, which follow guidance from local and state health departments, along with the CMS and CDC include:

  • Testing on all remaining skilled and assisted living residents who have not yet been tested for COVID-19.
  • Individuals presenting COVID-19-like symptoms are immediately isolated and we are following CDC and local and state health department guidelines when caring for those with COVID-19.
  • For residents with confirmed COVID-19 cases, all efforts will be made to provide a private room with private bathroom.
  • We have primary care employees dedicated to each resident. If we have multiple residents with COVID-19 or COVID-19 like symptoms, we attempt to ensure the same nurse and CNA is assigned to all COVID-19 patients.
  • All employees wear masks and those caring for COVID-19 patients will wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure their safety and to prevent the spread of the virus to others.
  • All resident rooms in skilled nursing are disinfected twice daily and there are enhanced cleanings in all common areas within the health center.
  • All employees have been trained in proper PPE usage, as well as proper infection control measures.
  • Employee and contractor screenings continue to be required with daily health assessments and temperature screening; healthcare employees are screened at the beginning and at the middle of their shifts.

Please continue to join us in praying for all individuals who’ve been impacted by this virus. Thank you for all of your words of encouragement and support.

Update:  5/12/2020

Covenant Living of Northbrook’s commitment to residents, families and employees is to always keep them informed of what is happening at the community—especially as it relates to the current environment with Coronavirus. Today we learned that a health care employee, not involved in direct care of residents, and unrelated to our previous healthcare employee, has been diagnosed positive with COVID-19 and is in quarantine at home.  The individual has not been at work for one week and is doing well.

As a matter of protocol, we have been in contact with the Cook County Department of Public Health, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the CDC and CMS and will be working closely with them regarding additional guidance on infection control protocols in addition to those we already have in place. Additionally, and as a precaution, we are retraining all of our employees on identifying any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, retraining on proper use of PPE, handwashing and infection control. In healthcare we continue to disinfect twice daily and once daily in residential living and there are enhanced cleanings in all common areas throughout the campus.

In following our current guidelines and protocols, all employees coming to work each day and half way through their shifts are screened with health assessment questions and a temperature screening. If an employee, visitor or contractor fails in any area of the screening, they will NOT be allowed to enter.

We continue to monitor all residents and employees who may exhibit any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and, if necessary, ask that they reach out to their personal physicians for medical advice.

We are taking all of the necessary steps in following infection control protocols. We have a community COVID-19 task force in place and we are in continuous contact with our Central Office COVID-19 task force that is providing us with additional information regarding guidelines, and disinfections and securing medical supplies.

The health and safety of all of our residents and employees is our highest priority. Please join us in praying for all who are impacted by this virus.

Update:  5/1/2020

The health and safety of our residents and employees is our highest priority and our commitment is to share the latest information with them of what is happening at the community. Since our last communication on April 28, we have learned that a residential employee has been diagnosed positive with COVID-19 and is at home in self-isolation. The individual has not been at work since Sunday, April 26, and was masked for the entire shift, which means even extended exposure creates a very low risk of transmission to anyone this person was in contact with.

This case has been reported to local and state health authorities and we remain in close contact with them regarding guidance on infection control protocols, in addition to the stringent measures we already have in place which follow CDC and CMS guidelines.

Our current guidelines and protocols require all employees coming to work each day to be screened with health assessment questions and a temperature screening. If an employee, visitor or contractor fails in any area of the screening, they will NOT be allowed to enter or will be asked to go home.

We are monitoring all residents and employees who may exhibit any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and, if necessary, ask that they reach out to their personal physicians for medical advice.

We have received many words of encouragement and support from our residents and family members and we thank them for that. We also thank our employees who continue to shine as they exemplify service over self.

Update: 3/10/2020

Covenant Living Communities and Services continues to stay on top of the latest regarding the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) across the nation and in our local communities. To date, none of our communities have been directly impacted.

However, due to concerns regarding the spread of coronavirus and in order to maintain a healthy community, we respectfully discourage all non-essential visits to our community. This request is for all individuals—including family members—as a preventive measure and precautionary step to protect our residents and staff until further notice.

Covenant Living is already following strict protocols and guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and local and state health departments. Our emergency response plans include everything from infectious control protocols, ensuring our health care employees providing care have adequate supplies to contingencies regarding dining services and activities, if necessary. In addition, we are reinforcing regular and thorough hand washing as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and telling any employee who is sick to stay home.

It is important we all remain vigilant and pay close attention to our own health and places we visit, in particular if any resident, employee or visitor has recently returned from travel overseas or has any signs of illness.

We pray for those impacted by the coronavirus in our country and for the safety of our residents, employees and their families. Together with your vigilance, along with planning and preparedness, we can maintain a safe and health community in which we live and work.

Update: 3/4/2020

The safety of our residents, employees and visitors is a top priority and it is important that we remain vigilant in protecting our residents and staff to maintain a healthy community.

Covenant Living Communities and Services is paying extremely close attention to the coronavirus situation in our country and on the local level at each of our communities. We have assembled a task force to monitor this situation, remain educated on the latest information from health officials, and implement any plans we have in place that may become necessary to ensure the health and safety of all of our residents, employees, family members and visitors. Our Central Office has a readiness plan for any potential COVID-19 outbreaks, in addition to our already established emergency response plans.

Our emergency response plans are developed following strict guidelines as recommended by local, state and national health officials. Those plans include everything from infectious control protocols, ensuring our health care employees providing care have adequate supplies to contingencies regarding dining services and activities, if necessary. In addition, we are reinforcing regular hand washing as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and telling any employee who is sick to stay home.

It is important we all remain vigilant and pay close attention to our own health and places we visit, in particular if any resident, employee or visitor has recently returned from travel overseas.

We pray the Coronavirus situation across the world and here at home is short-lived and that the residents, employees, and their families of Covenant Living remain untouched. Together with your vigilance, along with our planning and preparedness, it will guide us to maintain a safe and healthy community in which we live and work.
